Tonight we stayed outside with the neighbors and I let the kids stay up 2 hours past bedtime to do so. Before you start thinking I am a great mom, well, alot of it was for selfish reasons. The later they stay up...the later they sleep! So with the selfish intent of wanting to sleep in tomorrow, I let them stay up, enjoyed the company of our fab neighbors, etc.
So, came time to come in and go to bed. The kids of course wanted to go through their million reasons to stay up, and I played along with it. When they gave the excuse they wanted to go downstairs and say good night to Dad, I let them. Janae was in her jammies already. I went down to find them "sleeping" on the couch. I said, "Oh no! Where are Joshua and Janae? All that is here are these blankets (referring to the kids laying around Ken, pretending to sleep). I guess I will have to carry them up and put them on their beds for when the kids get back." The kids are trying not to laugh, and I carried Janae up first and put her into bed, her playing off the sleeping act the whole time.
I went back down to find Joshi still in his clothes, sweaty and dirty. So I reply, "boy, I don't know what to do with this dirty blanket. It is way to dirty to go on Joshi's bed. He would definately want the the blanket cleaned first. I better take the blanket outside and hose it off first." I was thinking at this point he would "wake up", but he just giggled, eyes closed and continued to play it off. So, I decided to go along with it. I hauled him over my shoulder, up the stairs, out the front door (keep in mind it is 10 at night and dark out) and lay him on the lawn. I thought FOR SURE he would give it up at this point. Nope. This kid is good! So, what choice do I have than to keep playing along?
I go over, in the dark, to the side of the house, find the hose, and turn it on. Joshi just lays there, trying not to laugh TOO hard, or open his eyes, cuz he is STILL playing along. I then say, "Okay, here I go.....going to get the BLANKET cleaned off.....better clean it good.....can only do that by getting it VERY, VERY, VERY wet....." He keeps it up! So, I had no choice than to hose him down, and by then we are both laughing, and he finally gets up and says back to me, "Mom, you are so much fun! Crazy, but fun."
We went back into the house, I got him a towel, and he got his jammies on for bed. He told Ken what I did, he laughed, rolled his eyes and smiled. Got to love moments like these, and I am on a personal quest to find more moments like them, as they are growing up entirely too fast. I love my kids. I love being a mom. I love being THEIR mom.
